Yoga Class Club: April 2024

Hey Everybody,

Welcome to April in our Yoga Class Club! 😃

I’m excited to present our new collection of classes for this Spring-filled month!

As always, we have a well-rounded selection of gentle, active, and strong classes, two 10-minute warm-up flows, and a specialty class – this month on hip stability.

Quick reminders about our Yoga Class Club:

–Please feel free to branch out from this class “club” and take any other classes from the greater library that you like (of course!). But just know that this April selection represents what I see as a balanced overall month-long practice.

–Also feel free to substitute any other class from the library (or from any other yoga teacher if you also take classes elsewhere, for that matter!) for one of the ones I’ve included in this club if I happen to choose a class this month that isn’t a good fit for your body or your practice. If you’re using the Accountability Checklist (scroll down to find it), you can also fill in your class substitution on there to replace the one I’ve suggested. :)

Enjoy our Yoga Class Club selection for April ‘24, everybody, and see you on the mat!

–Jenni

P.S. Remember that I’m always here in the forum space dedicated specifically to the Yoga Class Club if you have any comments, questions, or feedback about the “Club”!

Warm-Up Flows: 10-minute yoga/movement snacks

–Take each class 1x/week this month

  • A Little Lower Body Flow

    A Little Lower Body Flow

This lunge-focused flow takes some fun twists and turns and will end up mobilizing and activating your hips from all angles!

  • Fun Flow With Hamstring Activation

    Fun Flow With Hamstring Activation

This quick practice truly moves and warms your whole body, and we get to do my *favorite* active hamstring stretch at the end! The stretch does require a yoga strap (or scarf, belt, etc.) or a resistance band (my preferred prop for this stretch), but it’s so worth it – you’ll see!

Gentle yoga practices – when you want to move, but without a lot of effort

–Take each class once this month (and more if you need it)

  • Gentle Backbends Practice

    Gentle Backbends Practice (41 min)

This is a gentle practice with a focus on “heart opening”. I love the overall sequencing design of this class, because we somewhat counterintuitively start with 3 true restorative poses – reclined on props, holding for several minutes – and then after that, we move into some active (but gentle) movements. Your spine (and nervous system) will love this class!

  • Holding the big toe w/ Joe Miller

Holding the Big Toe Class w/ Joe Miller (28 min)

Joe Miller is our amazing resident somatics-style yoga teacher! He’s a certified Feldenkrais teacher, and his gentle classes consist of paying attention to the internal experience of very gentle, but thoughtful movements. This class uses the playful “hold your big toe” movement (basically our supta padangusthasana in yoga!) to explore a cool new movement pattern – and to potentially increase some hip mobility!

Active yoga practices – we flow and connect to our breath, but the challenge level is moderate

Take each class at least 2x this month

  • Lower body mobility flow

Lower Body Mobility Flow (50 min)

This is a creative flow that targets our whole body, but there’s an extra focus woven in on the quads (front thighs) and hamstrings (backs of the thighs) and ankles! Thus the name “Lower Body Mobility Flow”! This class is themed around a super fun squat variation that I think you’ll like playing with.

  • circular whole body practice

Circular Whole Body Practice (38 min)

I’m always a fan of a good circular flow, where we begin in one pose and journey through many others, only to end up back where we started again in a surprising and satisfying way. :) That’s the theme for this fun and well-rounded active flow class!

  • low whole body flow

Low Whole Body Flow (39 min)

Can you believe it? We manage to target our whole body in an active way in this class – without ever coming up into a standing position! I love the novelty of this practice, and the way my body feels afterward!

Strong flows (optional)– when we really want to level up the challenge!

Take each class 2x this month if your body wants a more fiery practice

  • vigorous vinyasa flow 5

Vigorous Vinyasa Flow 5 (43 min)

This is a great and challenging practice that’s themed around a cool transition between navasana (boat pose) and pigeon pose. I’d just make sure that you’re comfortable in traditional pigeon pose as a suggestion for taking this class! (Because we utilize our pigeon pose mobility in this fun flow.)

  • all sun salutations, all the time

All Sun Salutations, All the Time (35 min)

I created this class for those of us who love sun salutations, but who also love movement variety in our yoga practice! This class offers us the feel and flow of whole body sun salutations, but with some unique twists that I think you’ll love.

Specialty class (optional)– a yoga class with an extra specific focus

Take this class 1 or more times this month if this specialty focus feels relevant for your body!

  • hip stability flow

    Hip Stability Flow (42 min)

This is a terrific class to take if you’re interested in challenging your hip stability and also exposing your hips and lower body to some new and novel loading! Plus, we use a yoga block in one of my favorite ways in this practice!
